Question
How long do you need to have had the money in your account to get the Spain Non Lucrative Visa? I spoke to an immigration lawyer that said she knows of people being approved with only having the money in their account for 1 month. What’s everyone else’s experience?
Answers
These are the answers of Spainguru’s Spanish Non Lucrative Visa group members:
“Depends on the consulate. Where would you be applying from?” – “Los Angeles Consulate”
“Basically I have the chunk of cash required in my UK bank account but it’s only been there 2 months. I also have 2/3 of the requirements in US bank accounts and via my credit line. I have dual citizenship UK/USA.”
“I’ve had enough money in my account for the last few months but I just sold my house and the money was deposited last Friday. I was going to provide the escrow net sheet showing my proceeds from the sale which would explain the large deposit. (And have it translated as well). This should work, correct?”
“Just show them the trail of source of funds.”
“Out of Washington DC embassy last summer, we only had it on the account we used for proof of income like two months.”
“For us, at least one year.”
“12 months (Miami) every consulate has different requirements.”
“At least 3 months (consulate of Ciudad de Mexico).”
“I was told 6 month minimum.”
“Depends on the Consulate and where you are going to live.”
“Nope. Because they know people can borrow money deposit it for one month and give it back to their parents or whoever they borrowed it from. They have seen every trick.”
“It is my understanding that if I am on SSDI and can provide proof of the required monthly income, there is not a minimum balance required in bank. Have I misunderstood something?”
Conclusion
The duration that funds must be held in an account before applying for the Spain Non Lucrative Visa varies significantly by consulate and individual circumstances.
While some consulates may require the funds to be seasoned for a year, others may accept proof of funds that have been in the account for only a few months.
Applicants should provide a clear trail of the source of funds and may need to adjust their strategy based on specific consulate requirements and their own financial situation.
