Spain Non Lucrative Visa: Are There New Requirements About Having Ties to Spain? – May 2025

Question

We are hoping to sell our house next week and start the nlv process. We have heard rumours that the Spanish govt are proposing tightening applications up in that you will need to prove some links to spain inhabitants. Anyone any info on this please.

Answers

These are the answers of Spainguru’s Spanish Non Lucrative Visa group members:

“When I hear ‘we have heard,’ I’m immediately suspect of your sources.”

“There was just a comprehensive overhaul of almost all of the visas so I doubt there will be another big change anytime soon?”

“No, this isn’t true. They did stop the Golden Visa, but that is it (at least at this time). If you meet all the NLV requirements, you will be fine.”

“I think someone maybe passing in wrong info, sounds like they may be confusing the NLV with the jobseekers visa (family connection) nothing has changed with NLV at all.”

“There are some really good videos on nlv process.”

“Nothing specific. Google Spainguru. They have several videos. Google Spain Visas. Living International is very commercialized. Try to stay with more Spain local like SpainSavvy. Spain NVL on Youtube. Try that.

Then pick your visa and then pick your area.

Remember taxes, wealth tax, visa, living expenses. You need to be up for the process as much as the cafes and beaches.”

Conclusion

According to Spainguru’s Facebook group members, the rumor that applicants for the Spain Non Lucrative Visa must prove connections to Spanish residents appears to be unfounded.

While there has been a recent overhaul of various visa types, no changes have been made to the NLV requirements in this regard.

Some speculate that confusion may stem from other visas, such as the jobseeker visa, which may require family ties.

Members encourage relying on official sources and trusted content creators for accurate information and note that as long as applicants meet the standard requirements, they should be fine.
