How do you actually get the non lucrative Spain visa, in person or by mail?

Question about non lucrative Spain visa

After the appointment with the Spanish Consulate in the US (washington DC), how do you actually get the non lucrative Spain visa (same day, mailed to you, or you pick it up in person?). Any way you can get the visa same day ?

These are the answers of some Facebook group members:

“Don’t know about DC muy here in Miami you get your visa stamped on your passport the day of your appointment. You can also email the consulate they’ll email back.”

“We did DC in the late Summer. You need to take a self-addressed envelope (to speed things up it can be an overnight USPS service). It takes several weeks for the NLV because your passport and some of your documents go to the region in Spain where you will reside and then comes back to DC. How long it takes depends on the region. Madrid took a little over two weeks.”
