Question
Could someone tell me how to request a duplicate passport needed during the time that BLS or the Consulate has your passport during the Spain Non Lucrative Visa application? You don’t report it lost or anything I recall.
Unfortunately, I don’t remember what needs to be done and how long it takes to get it.

“Not sure where you’re from, but in the UK you cannot get a duplicate passport, only if stranded in a foreign country etc. an embassy can supply temporary travel documents.”
“For the UK, we made it in person but we had compassionate grounds for two nearly 90 people. Mum had to get back for medical care in Spain and we had to fly over for the London BLS appointment.
Completely nuts. Sadly I don’t think she will last to see it through to fingerprints TIE stage on 20th Sept.”
“Not speaking from experience and am probably wrong, only my understanding from comments on this site. I hadn’t realized you could do this?
I thought you could request your passport back while they were processing your application but it would then delay your visa until it was returned to the BLS.”
“In the USA, BLS kept the passport so the Spanish consulate could review paperwork and place the visa with NIE number on it. It was kept for about 6 weeks. Before making the application, we applied for second passports with no issue on a special form and received it within a few weeks having been expedited.
That way we could still travel out of the country. Our 10 yr was provided to BLS and we kept the new 4 yr which has a different number to travel with.”
