Spain Non Lucrative Visa: Applying from Istanbul and Key Document Requirements

Question

I am about to apply for an Spain Non Lucrative Visa at the BLS office in Istanbul. I am British, but I have lived in Turkey for over 5 years. A couple of questions:

  1. What is the document that is called Certificate of Residence?
  2. Can I use Turkish notary sworn translators, or do I have to find a translator that is recognised and registered in Spain?
  3. I should be getting a stamped and signed bank statement from my UK bank to prove my funding. Do I need to translate it?

Answers

These are the answers of Spainguru’s Facebook group members:

“I am Turkish and got my Spain Non Lucrative Visa five years ago from Turkey. If things have not changed, the Certificate of Residence is ‘ikametgah belgesi.’ It can be obtained from e-Devlet online.

If you don’t have e-Devlet login, you can obtain it directly from Nüfus Müdürlüğü in your city. It proves your current address and is similar to the padrón you will need to get in Spain for your TIE.”

“For translation, you will use a sworn translator, and then a notary will notarize it. All documents obtained from agencies will then need an apostille.”

“I didn’t translate my bank statements, which were in Turkish. However, I applied through the Ankara embassy, and the requirements may change slightly between consulates.”

“For recommended sworn translators (the first one includes Turkish), here are Spainguru’s sworn translators.

Conclusion

Applying for a Spain Non Lucrative Visa from Istanbul involves understanding specific documentation requirements:

  1. Certificate of Residence (İkametgah Belgesi): This document verifies your address in Turkey and can be obtained online via e-Devlet or in person at the Nüfus Müdürlüğü.
  2. Sworn Translations: Documents must be translated by a sworn translator and then notarized. Documents issued by Turkish authorities will also require an apostille.
  3. Bank Statement Translation: Translation requirements vary by consulate. Some applicants did not need to translate their bank statements, but it’s best to verify with the Istanbul consulate before submission.

This information is based on personal experience. To ensure compliance, consulting with the consulate official requirements is highly recommended.
