US Mobile: Will It Work in Spain for 2FA Texts?

Question

Hi, looking for anyone who has had experience with US Mobile in Spain. They tell me it “should” work to get text messages from the US. Anyone using them? Thanks

Answers

These are the answers of Spainguru’s Facebook group members:

“I use Tello, which is similar, and it works fine. I chose them over US Mobile simply because other folks in this group recommended Tello. But they seemed pretty comparable”

“We have Mint and it works well on wifi in Spain. I don’t pay for the daily international plan so it really doesn’t do anything off wifi. But no one important calls on on a regular phone line anymore. Everyone knows we are on WhatsApp. And I don’t really need 2FA texts outside of the house. I do all of my US banking/investing on the computer at home.”

US Mobile: Will It Work in Spain for 2FA Texts?

“Sometimes I have trouble calling out on the US line when I’m at home because it tries to use the cellular signal as an augment but I figured out that I can turn on airplane mode and that forces wifi only, and then I’m able to make perfect calls to the US on the US line.”

“Totally. If you don’t need separate service for traveling to the US or another country outside the EU then there are other options that will get you just the 2FA texts while on wifi.”

“Yes, it works with WiFi. More details needed.”

Conclusion

US Mobile can work in Spain for receiving text messages, especially for 2FA purposes, if connected to WiFi. While no one in the conversation had firsthand experience with US Mobile specifically, similar services like Tello and Mint were confirmed to work for receiving texts and using US-based numbers over WiFi.

For banking and other authentication processes, these solutions appear reliable at home, particularly when using airplane mode to ensure WiFi-only connectivity. Those not needing full service abroad may find these low-cost options sufficient for their needs.
