Question
“I have an LLC – This LLC pays me as a contractor, basically I invoice the LLC for the work I do. Is this allowed for the DNV or do I have to be a W-2 of my own LLC.”
Answers
These are the answers of Spainguru’s Spain Digital Nomad Visa group members:
“It is important how you prepare the documents well as a business owner. If it is clear, through the documents you are the owner, it is not possible to have a contract with yourself.
This depends on key words in the documents you present. For example if your name is included in LLC name it will not work.
If your documents show you as founder, director, shareholder this will trigger additional proof that you have a business contract with an outside business and more documents.
It is possible IF the documents are well prepared. If you need an updated list of documents for a business owner I can send it to you.”
“I have submitted 3 applications just the way you explain and were granted. But we checked all documents twice and were in touch with UGE for some specifications.”
“This is fine and in fact company owners in Spain are contractors”
Conclusion
According to Spainguru’s Facebook group members, applying for the Spain Digital Nomad Visa using your own LLC—where you invoice the company as a contractor—is generally acceptable if handled correctly.
The success depends heavily on how you present your documents, particularly the contract and company paperwork. Avoid red flags such as naming yourself directly in the company title and ensure the arrangement doesn’t appear to be self-contracting without separation.
Many have been approved under this setup, but professional advice and careful document preparation are strongly recommended.
