How much do people spend on groceries on a weekly basis in Spain

Question about how much do people spend on groceries

My partner and I are moving to Malaga soon and I’m curious as to much do people spend on groceries (only) on a weekly basis? I know everyone’s different but I’d like to get more or less a ballpark figure.

These are the answers of some Facebook group members:

“How much do people spend on groceries? About 80 euros. We are a couple buying on a weekly basis at carrefour”

“My wife and I spend about 80 per week give or take, at Mercadona. We’ve been here since January and find that the price for meat is quite steep. Of the 80, about 15-20 is meat (pack of chicken, minced beef, pork chops and bacon cubes). If you’re vegetarian, you’d spend less I reckon.”

“I’d say 100 euro a week but the. There’s extras here and there . Fruit and veg shops can be quite dear . Aldi / Lidl are good options and Carrefour has lovely fresh made food (this of course is going to add considerably)”

“Family of 5, we spend 200/250 per week eating mostly organic and/or local food. It’s not cheap, but then we spend ZERO on gasoline, smoking, alcohol and other stuff that is heavy on the budget for many families.”

“We moved here about a month ago and have been spending on average €80-100 per week shopping at Mas, Mercacona and carrefour! we usually get our bread & some fruit from local shops.”

In conclusion, the amount people spend on groceries in Malaga (Spain) varies depending on factors like family size, dietary preferences, and where they shop. On average, couples tend to spend around 80 to 100 euros per week. However, for larger families or those with specific dietary choices, the weekly grocery budget can range from 100 to 250 euros. It’s essential to consider individual needs and explore different stores like Mercadona, Aldi, Lidl, and Carrefour to find the best options for your budget and preferences when settling in Malaga (Spain).
