What is the best Spanish health insurance for the Non lucrative Spain visa?

Question

Coming to you with a question regarding Spain health insurance as I get ready for my Non lucrative Spain visa application from here in Washington, DC.
I have contacted three companies thus far and have received widely different quotes. The quotes received are from: DKV Salud, Sanitas, and Adeslas insurance companies.
I want to see if anyone has used or is currently using these companies and what has been your level of satisfaction with them? If there are other companies I should also check please chime in.

These are the answers of some Facebook group members:

“I have been covered by Sanitas for almost 12 years, and they have been excellent, never more so than when my late wife fought cancer for three years, with three hospitalizations, weekly chemotherapy sessions and too many tests to count. Throughout, we had no authorization issues, surprise out-of-network billing or other typical US healthcare insurance crap! A few questions, quickly answered to our satisfaction. She received professional and caring medical treatment at Quironsalud Hospital in Malaga, which claims a “patient-centric“ philosophy of business. But one suggestion is that whichever insurance carrier you choose, make sure they have effective local healthcare provider partners in the area where you want to live. Good luck!”

“Over the years I’ve had Adeslas, Caser and Sanitas. I’ve been equally happy with all of them. If I change from one to another every couple of years it’s to get a better price. My advice is to check to be sure they’re offering similar coverage and then go for the cheapest one.”

“Depends on geographical area. I’ve heard Adeslas is good in Valencia or Madrid, but I don’t recommend Adeslas for Malaga province. Limited facilities and doctors accept it. Have had to to travel to other towns for appointments, had long waits for better physicians, paid cash for some services and cannot use some of the better clinics as they do not take it. If you have any issues the first year, you can’t switch to another company as you then have a pre-existing condition it does not cover. Spanish insurance companies are like the US pre-Obamacare.”

“Been pleased with Adeslas tor 2 years so far, living in Valencia (you might want to reply where you’re moving, as coverage can vary by area). Never a problem, easy to find doctors. I’ve been extremely pleased with the medical care here and zero issues with Adeslas (and what a bargain compared to the US!).”

“The quotes I have received thus far are 215€, 177€, 139€ for DKV, Sanitas, and Adeslas respectively for one person. I’ll be doing additional searches as I’m still some months away from applying for NLV. I’m keeping track of their coverages to be sure to compare fairly between them. They are all a fraction of what health insurance costs in the US, all without deductibles!”

“We also have Adeslas. Never had a problem and a great group of doctors and hospitals to choose from”

From the collective feedback of Spainguru’s Facebook group members, it is evident that individual experiences with Spanish health insurance companies like Sanitas, Adeslas, and DKV Salud vary. While Sanitas is lauded for its commendable support during serious health issues, Adeslas is praised for its coverage in places like Valencia but has received mixed reviews in other regions. Pricing across the three differs, but it’s universally acknowledged that their rates are substantially lower than U.S. health insurance costs. The crucial takeaway is to ensure the chosen insurer has effective local healthcare partners in one’s intended residence area and to compare coverages diligently before finalizing.
